Why did the resurrected Jesus only reveal himself to a few people?

1 Corinthians 15:6 says Jesus appeared to “more than 500 brethren at one time.”  We know women and children were not counted in these types of groups (see Matthew 14:21), so who knows the actual number of people to whom he appeared.  Jesus also made other post-resurrection appearances, but we don’t know how many appearances he made.  The Bible doesn’t tell us.  He was on earth for forty days from his resurrection to his ascension.  My guess is that Jesus appeared to those who saw him, witnessed his miracles before the Crucifixion and witnessed the Crucifixion itself.  If he appeared to people outside of Jerusalem, people would have probably wondered, “Why is this dude walking around with holes in his hands, feet and side?”  Rather, he appeared to precisely those people who would carry the truth to the rest of the world.  In other words, his followers needed to participate in Christ’s salvific mission by evangelizing and baptizing.  My guess is that Jesus revealed himself to a few thousand people, but the Bible does not tell us an exact number.  I hope this answers your question.
God bless!
